When: Monday, October 7, 2019 – 10:00am to 2:00pm
What: An opportunity for a more sensory sensitive experience to the Topsfield Fair for families who have family members with autism or sensory processing disorders.
Vendors: Will have no flashing lights, music, or announcements Kiddie Land: Will have no flashing lights, music, or announcements
Sound: On stages and entertainment (Racing Pigs, Racing Ducks, Farmyard, All Hands Drumming) will be lowered
Announcements on Grounds: Limited and volume turned down
Why: To make the Topsfield Fair a more inclusive environment, so all families have better access to the agricultural resources we provide to the community. Families who have family members with autism, sensory processing disorders, or other factors that make attending large scale events, such as the Fair, difficult; often causes these families to be excluded from accessing these types of events. Loud music, flashing lights, and large crowds can be extremely overwhelming and unmanageable to children and adults who have sensory difficulties, we hope this will make it possible for them to visit the Fair.
Opportunity for Fair Goers: Kids Safe Zone! This is a space for families to access if their child needs a quiet space to relax or re-group. Sensory materials are available for them. It is located next to the Picnic Area and Beekeeping Building.
