Meet Jenna – 2014 Theme Contest Winner!
August 2014-
As a life-long resident of Danvers, I have attended the fair with family and friends every year since I was born. As far back as I can remember, my dad and I would take a day off from school/work and go to the fair and spend the day eating our favorite fair foods (Vegetable Tempura!) and playing the midway games until the sun went down. My favorite attractions at the fair include the Antique Tractor Pull, feeding the chickens in the Poultry Barn, and watching the Hallamore Clydesdales perform their eight horse hitch. The most entertaining memory I have of the Topsfield Fair was a few years back when the Tufts University Beelzebubs (the a cappella group) performed in Coolidge Hall after being featured on NBC’s The Sing Off earlier that year. I also fondly remember marching in the Topsfield Fair Opening Day parade with the Danvers High School marching band in the year 2000, just a few months before we marched in the Rose Bowl Parade. I’m an avid backyard gardener and have entered several of my vegetables in the Topsfield Fair over the past years including eggplant, green beans, peppers, and tomatoes (and a few of them have come in first place in their division!) My idea for the theme “Let the Good Times Grow” was sparked from that love of gardening, and I felt it was very fitting for the world’s oldest Agricultural Fair. Topsfield Fair is one of the highlights of the fall season for me, and I’m guaranteed to have a good time every year.
