Interactive exhibit in the Education Center that provides an educational opportunity for students to experience the many different components of agriculture. Children visiting this unique hands-on experience will be able to plant, grow, pick and sell their own agricultural products in this display. Once they travel through all the different farm “chores” they will be able to use their “Farm Dollar” and purchase an item within the Farm Hands market.
Groups have the opportunity to tour the Fair and all of our buildings with this program. Each student will be given a map of the fairgrounds, marked with the 9 spots in their adventure. At each spot, children will find a board with questions and answers, as well as a mural in which they can get their picture taken. Once students complete their map, they can turn it in for an “Agricultural Adventure” ribbon!*
The Education Shed is located within the New Meadows Demonstration Area and contains informational worksheets and handouts for you and your students to help enhance the learning experiences your students gain from the Agricultural Classroom.
Northeast Harvest sponsors a Farm to Fork class during the Topsfield Fair for local student in Essex and Middlesex counties. The class discussion is about where their food comes from. Our goal is to teach students that all food comes from plants or animals, that food has to be farmed, caught or grown at home and that food how food changes from farm to fork. Students test their knowledge of dinner table classics with the Farm to Fork Challenge activity. This class is concluded by thanking our local farmers by having the students make cards that we distribute to our farmers in Essex and Middlesex counties!
